Holding Others to Account: Addressing Performance with Confidence

Spotting the gap between what was agreed and what happens — and closing it before it becomes a habit.

Course Overview

This course is designed for leaders who are ready to move beyond noticing poor performance and start addressing it directly, promptly, and confidently.

At Always Growing, holding others to account isn’t about catching people out. It is about protecting the quality of experience every child receives, by making sure agreed actions, processes and standards are actually followed through, not just discussed.

This course will guide you through how to recognise poor performance early, have direct and fair conversations about it, and follow through consistently, so that accountability becomes a normal, expected part of everyday leadership rather than an occasional, uncomfortable event.

Who Is This For?

This course is for:

  • Nursery Managers
  • Deputy Managers
  • Room Leaders
  • Senior Practitioners
  • Aspiring Leaders
  • Anyone who has agreed an action with a team member, only to see it not followed through

If you find it hard to raise a performance issue, or notice the same issues resurfacing because they weren’t addressed the first time, this course is for you.

What Will You Do?

Throughout this course, you will:

  • Learn to spot the early signs of poor performance before it becomes embedded
  • Understand the difference between a one-off slip and a pattern that needs addressing
  • Explore why agreed actions and processes sometimes aren’t followed, and how to close that gap
  • Practise having prompt, direct and fair accountability conversations
  • Learn how to follow up consistently so standards are actually maintained, not just discussed
  • Build confidence in addressing everyday actions, not only significant performance concerns
  • Protect the quality of support available to children by acting quickly when standards slip

What Are the Benefits?

By completing this course, you will:

  • Build confidence in raising and addressing performance issues early
  • Develop a team that understands actions and agreements are followed through, not forgotten
  • Reduce frustration from repeating the same conversations without change
  • Strengthen trust and respect through fair, consistent follow-through
  • Create a culture where accountability is normal, not personal or confrontational
  • Better protect standards and outcomes for children
