Leadership of Self – Self-Awareness

There are no published lessons in this course yet.

Know yourself, regulate yourself, lead better practice.

Who is this for?

All early years practitioners from apprentice to leader who want to strengthen reflective practice, stay calm under pressure, and improve the quality of their interactions with children, families, and colleagues. It’s also ideal for room leaders and managers supporting team consistency and culture.

What will you do?

You will:

  • Explore what self-awareness is and why it matters in early years practice.
  • Reflect on your thoughts, emotions, values, and how these show up in your behaviour at work.
  • Identify personal triggers and patterns (especially in busy or challenging moments).
  • Practise simple techniques to pause, reset, and respond more intentionally.
  • Use a short journaling tool to build daily awareness and track progress.
  • Complete a “freeze-frame” reflection to learn from a real incident and plan what you’ll do differently next time.

What are the benefits?

Stronger self-awareness leads to:

  • A more reflective culture across the setting, linked to quality improvement and Ofsted readiness.
  • Calmer, more consistent practice, even in pressured moments.
  • Better emotional regulation and fewer reactive responses.
  • Stronger relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
  • More professional confidence and clearer decision-making.

Where can you seek help?

Email info@alwaysgrowing.co.uk with any questions, or if you’d like tailored support for your setting (e.g., coaching, reflective supervision prompts, or a whole-team session).

You can also seek support by pairing up with a colleague as an accountability partner: sharing reflections, noticing progress, and keeping the learning alive in everyday practice.
