Clear Communication – Power of Language

There are no published lessons in this course yet.

Who is this for?

This is for all practitioners working in the nursery setting that want to ensure the harness the power of their words for the benefit of the children, their collleagues and themselves.

What will you do?

From completing this course, you will:

  • Understand how language shapes learning, identity, and relationships: Explore how words influence children’s thinking, confidence, and sense of belonging, linking communication to emotional regulation and behaviour.
  • Develop intentional communication skills: Learn how adult language choices — what we say, how we say it, and when — can either open up or shut down learning opportunities.
  • Create a language-rich environment: Discover practical strategies for extending vocabulary, supporting early communication, and valuing all home languages within play, storytelling, and everyday routines.
  • Promote positive, reflective practice: Examine the power of tone and phrasing in observations, feedback, and team communication, fostering a culture of respect, curiosity, and professional growth.

You will learn about this through a range of video and text material, with regular reflection encouraged throughout.

What are the benefits?

For nursery teams, developing an understanding of the power of language transforms everyday interactions into powerful teaching moments. It helps practitioners communicate with greater clarity and empathy, reducing misunderstandings and conflict while strengthening relationships with children, families, and colleagues. A shared focus on positive, intentional language builds a calmer, more connected environment where children feel heard, valued, and confident to express themselves.
